Stride is an Atlanta based start-up founded by a Georgia Tech student, with a mission of making search and rescue technology in the backcountry more accessible and affordable.
Outdoor recreation is one of the greatest pastimes, but it comes with some great responsibility. If you are unprepared, a once great pastime can become a real nightmare very fast. Without cell service in the backcountry, you need a satellite communicator to access help if something goes wrong. Such devices are upwards of $200 with hefty subscription fees. That's where Stride comes in. Stride is developing a small, lightweight, and low-cost device that can alert emergency personnel if something were to happen in the back country.
No more paying hundreds of dollars for satellite communication. No more worrying about cell service. No more breaking the bank. Stride has your back.
Learn More About UsStride device dispensers will be deployed at trailheads and visitor centers in National and State Parks across the United States. Simply purchase a Stride device before entering the backcountry, and the device will seamlessly attach to your gear, like a hiking boot. The device will feature an SOS button to notify emergency personnel if you encounter a life-threatening emergency on the trail. An additional Alert button is equipped if you require non-emergency assistance from Park personnel. Return the device at a trailhead or visitor center once you are done enjoying the outdoors. It's that simple.
All of this is possible by moving away from dispatching emergency services via satellite communicators and using long-range radio communication instead.
